Miss Thomas and Miss Almeida

Welcome to the Year 3 class page. It has been a very strange year for everyone, but we are really looking forward to welcoming you all back. We know that many children may be feeling nervous about coming back to school, but rest assured that we will be doing everything that we can to ensure that children have a smooth transition into Year 3 and to keep them safe.

Important Reminders.

Homework

Spellings and times table practice will be given out every Friday and these are expected to be practiced regularly at home. These are for children to learn throughout the week, as they will be tested every Friday in class. Children should use Times Table Rockstars and additional work provided to practice their times tables.

As well as this, children should be reading at least 3 times a week, with an adult, at home. They should take at least one Accelerated Reader quiz a week at home, as part of their weekly reading homework.

P.E.

This half term P.E is on a Tuesday (Gym) and a Thursday (Outdoor Games). Please remember to have your P.E. kit in school. Please make sure you have an extra jumper and jogging pants for outdoor games as it is a little chilly at this time of year.

Spellings.

A spelling test will be given every Friday. It is important that you practise your spellings and try to use them in your writing.

European Day of Languages

To celebrate European Day of Languages, Year 3 learned all about Italy. We learned all about what Italy is most famous for such as their delicious food and stylish clothes. We even managed to learn some Italian greetings. We worked in pairs to practice greeting each other in our new language.

After we had learned all about Italy, we guessed what Italian food may look like and we even got to try our own! We all loved the ciabatta bread, but we had very mixed feelings about the olives.

Stone Age WOW Day

Year 3 have enjoyed stepping back in time to experience life as a Stone Age child. We took part in lots of exciting activities like creating our own cave art, fabric dying and becoming hunter-gatherers.

We enjoyed exploring Stone Age techniques to create our art work. We used our fingers to paint, smudged chalk and used natural materials to dye our own patterns.

In the afternoon, we dissected Stone Age poo to investigate the Stone Age diet. How disgusting! We found out that they ate a lot of meat, fresh fruit and grains.

To end our day, we became hunter-gatherers and crept around the playground as we hunted for strange, historical animals.
